Martyn Beardsley's new direction

Nottinghamshire author Martyn Beardsley has released his first adult novel, MURDER IN MONTAGUE PLACE, a Victorian detective novel featuring Bleak House's Inspector Bucket.

Great Scotland Yard 1844. When the beautiful Eleanora Scambles claims that her husband has been wrongly arrested for the murder of Edward Mizzentoft, Inspector Bucket of the recently formed Detective Department is intrigued - but there are two problems. The case is already being handled by Bucket's colleague, who is in no doubt about his man's guilt. And someone else observed the conversation between Bucket and Mrs Scambles: someone who will go to great lengths to ensure that the truth never gets out. How can Inspector Bucket and Sergeant Gordon investigate without breaching professional etiquette? And who is the mysterious figure stalking Mrs Scambles?

Martyn Beardsley’s latest non-fiction title is A MATTER OF HONOUR
This is the true story of the last fatal duel between Englishmen on English soil. In Portsmouth, 1845, the lecherous ex-cavalry officer James Alexander Seton made a play for the wife of Lieutenant Henry Hawkey of the Royal Marines. Mounting tensions between the two men led to a duel on the beach at Gosport. Seton died from his wounds, but although Hawkey was cleared of murder his troubles weren't over. Subsequent events were to throw his wife's assumed innocence into doubt, and lead Hawkey into a downward spiral of debt and despair.
